Seminar at Coventry University, October 20, 2011
Give confidence to your measurements by the use of intercomparisons
Intercomparison is a tool, a method used to assure and compare quality and capabilities at a measurement laboratory. ISO standards and accreditation bodies urge laboratories to participate regularly in intercomparisons to demonstrate reliability of performance. But to be able to use the intercomparison for such quality assurance, the intercomprison itself must be of a certain quality and it must be easy to understand the result and final outcome. In cooperation with British Measurement and Testing Association CFI will arrange a one day seminar regarding this October 20, at the University in Coventry.
Purpose
The purpose of this day is to explain the principles of intercomparisons to make it possible to use such as a quality tool. Participants will also be given some insight in standards covering this area, such as ISO guide 17043 and ILAC G13.
Target group
Laboratories (with or without accreditation), assessors, accreditation bodies, QA personnel
Content
- how to use the results from an intercomparison
- how to use/not use the uncertainty in the intercomparison
- What is, and what is the benefit of, the ”En-value”
- advantages of correlation analysis
- how to select good instruments ('artefacts')

This is the website of CFI, a centre for
intercomparisons (proficiency testing) which has been developed for
the purpose to assist calibration- and testing laboratories to
secure their measurement claims according to ISO/IEC 17025.
CFI works over a wide area of different measurement quantities,
instruments and accuracy levels, and our goal is to assist both
measurement laboratories and industrial users.
Since there are many un-accredited laboratories that also need to
secure their measurement capability, the services of this web site
are also open to them.
The services offered was originally developed in cooperation between the NMI
(National Metrology institutes) in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
